Best Places to Hold a Fashion Event in Nairobi.

Hits: 129

Over the past decade, the fashion industry in the country has grown rapidly. Fashion events have enjoyed increasing audiences in each successive event encouraging organizers to provide guests with a high quality experience during each event to be able to keep up with the competition. This post is not really for the event attendees but more for organizers. But even attendees are welcome to ride along.

We’re going to look into some of the best venues to hold fashion events mostly in Nairobi assuming that Nairobi can be considered as a strong hold of fashion in the East and Central African region.

This list is in no particular order.

  1. MICHAEL JOSEPH CENTER.
It won’t come as a surprise to many that Michael Joseph Center (MJC) comes top of the list.  MJC is an event space set aside at Safaricom’s headquarters along Waiyaki way. The space is easily available to most of Nairobians. It is located in a fairly posh part of town hence giving guests a feeling of exclusivity. The center is qualified to host a variety of events including conferences, workshops, album launches and other extravaganzas, however, it works really well for fashion events because it almost feels like it was meant for that purpose. When you’re using the center, Safaricom provides almost all the facilities one would need for an event. This includes, but is not limited to: PA sytem, projector facilities, grand piano, food court area, a stage, technical support and security. What better to make this deal sweeter than making all these facilities for free. All one needs to do is book with Safaricom via their customer care here and upon being approved, you’ll have access to the facility. Your event has to comply with Safaricom’s guidelines and due to the high demand of the facility, it’s usually booked out months in advance. This shouldn’t deter you from making your bid.
Notable events held here include: Brad’s Fashion Show, Fashion Bloggers Runway Show, East African Fashion Gala & the African Fashion Fusion among others.
  2. THIKA ROAD MALL CONVENTION CENTER.
TRM Convention Center is obviously a go to destination due to the strategic location. Anyone who’s anyone in Nairobi at least knows where Thika Road Mall is because it’s in the name. The Center is at the rooftop of the mall offering ample parking and security for all guests available. You should however note that your guests will pay for their own parking fees. The Center is a massive space that can support up to a thousand guests and over inclusive of set up. They offer convenient mood lighting; which is very useful if, for some reason, you’re not bringing along your own lights. There are many facilities in the mall such as food courts that would reduce the burden of providing refreshments for your guests since they can grab a snack at the food courts down stairs. Security is provided by TRM and it’s efficient to say the least. The hall is, however, not convenient for smaller events that expect a turnout of less than 200 guests. The space is just too big and the echoes coming from your sound equipment will rob the experience you’re trying to provide guests with. Notable events held here include: The JW Show and the African Fashion Fusion among others.
  3. NAIROBI RAILWAYS MUSEUM
The railways museum is a worthy alternative to consider for those who are seeking a venue within the center and are on a budget. The venue is not suitable for large events expecting and audience of more than 200 persons. The upside of using this as an event location is the ease of access since the location is practically in the CBD. There is ample parking space for small events and security is guaranteed, the venue has a manned access gate and security is provided by the museum. Your guests will also be able to enjoy the stunning  view of old trains that have been decommissioned, they make for good photos for the guests to hold on to and remember you by. The event space is also partially opened with the roof and only a small piece covered up, making for a nice outdoor vibe during the event.
